Its been close to 2 years that Green Terrace has been in existence and each day feels like a new day at the farm. We continue to learn and experience new things as we forge ahead in this intriguing journey.

The learning process has exposed and affirmed Green Beans as one of our speciality crops and what we particularly love about Green Beans is that they relatively require minimal effort to grow. Green Beans are a good source of fibre and vitamins, probably a very good reason why they're in such high demand.

A little insight about beans, there are generally two types of bean crops, one being the Bush Beans and the other being the Runner Beans. Runner Beans are beans that require a trellis for support and usually take longer to mature whereas Bush Beans require no form of trellis which means that they can easily be grown outside with no formal structures in place like we do at the farm. Generally, Green Beans take about 8 weeks to mature, from planting to harvesting.

At Green Terrace we make use of conventional and natural farming methods and upon planting, we use chicken manure and after 2 weeks of growth, we add LAN onto the field, and from there we rely on just the right amount of water and let mother nature to take care of the rest. This has been the second time planting green beans and we have had no reason to add insecticides as the bees usually speed up the flowering process for us during pollination. And that's what we love about farming! The ability to be involved in the natural process of green vegetation, planting a seed and mother nature completing the rest.

In less than two years we continue to learn and strive for perfection at every stage of the value chain in our farming business. Even though nature has a habit of throwing a few curve balls, nonetheless, it still provides us an opportunity to learn a trick or two.

The progress continues and in our next blog, we will share with you the design process of putting up a shade net structure.
